Farms and tropical plant nurseries continually decline in the Agricultural Reserve. This decline was predicted in the Agricultural Reserve Master Plan. Below are farms and nurseries that closed, sold or relocated since the Agricultural Reserve’s mass rezoning change of 1998 that heavily restricted the landowner’s property rights:

By 2005, more than 60 nurseries in Palm Beach County had sold to become commercial or residential developments or went out of business. As a result, Palm Beach Wholesale Growers Association merged with the Florida Nursery Grower’s and Landscape Association because of the drastic decline in Palm Beach County’s nursery industry.
More than 60% of the nurseries that were in business in 1993 in Palm Beach County’s Wholesale Grower’s Association, 53 nurseries out of 88, are out of business and no longer exist.
